Lady Chargers bow in wild one
KINSTON — Another chance to step out of NCCSA play left the Wilson Christian varsity volleyball on the short end of a four-game verdict Thursday at Parrott Academy.
The Lady Chargers, defending NCCSA 2-A champions, were denied by the NCISAA 2-A/3-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference-leading Patriots 26-24, 25-19, 16-25, 27-25.
“Awesome game, really fun. Very competitive back and forth,” commented WCA head coach Ryan Vanderboegh of the game that left his team 7-5 overall. “I was really proud of the girls. They never stopped fighting, they never stopped clawing. Our big theme tonight was focus and focus on every point and they did a good job in the third and fourth sets.”
Senior Jocelyn Bailey dazzled with 26 digs, nine kills, two aces and a block while classmate Sophia Nesbit rang up 11 kills, seven blocks, an assist and an ace. Junior Gracie Farmer totaled 17 digs, eight kills and two aces while senior Kate Hoskin supplied 15 digs, four kills and an ace.
Junior setter Izzy Barnes doled out 33 assists to go with three digs, two kills and an ace while Emma Robbins came up with 15 digs. Allie Smith added eight blocks, two kills and an ace.
It was the sixth straight win for Parrott Academy, which upped its record to 12-5.
Wilson Christian will visit Halifax Academy on Tuesday in Roanoke Rapids.
