With just one win separating them from the program’s 10th NCISAA boys basketball championship appearance, the Greenfield School Knights didn’t mess around Tuesday in their semifinals matchup with visiting Crossroads Christian.

Greenfield, seeded No. 1, ran to a 98-64 win, its 15th straight, to secure a spot in Saturday’s final against Charlotte United Faith Christian, the No. 2 seed. The Knights pulled out a 73-72 overtime win against United Faith (18-7) at Greenfield on Dec. 17.

“The two best teams in 1-A have gotten there,” Greenfield head coach Rob Salter said. “We’ve been the two best teams all year. I think a lot of people were expecting this matchup again.”

Hampton Evans led the Knights with 25 points, which included the 1,000th career point for the 6-foot-5 sophomore. Senior Aaron Murphy scored 24 points while Nik Edwards tossed in 11 points and Kyshon Atkinson added 10 points.

“Offensively, we were clicking on all cylinders,” said Salter, whose team canned 11 3-pointers. “We came out tonight and executed our game plan. Orr guys are just playing good basketball right now.”

Crossroads Christian (19-8), which also lost to Greenfield earlier this season, was led by Andres’ Prince with a game-high 30 points.

Greenfield and United Faith will meet Saturday afternoon at 5 at Kornegay Arena on the campus of the University of Mount Olive. This will be Greenfield’s 10th title game appearances as the Knights seek their sixth title. The last came in 2019.

This will also be the first time Greenfield has played in an NCISAA 1-A championship game played east of Raleigh.
