Knights advance into NCISAA 1-A quarters

The Greenfield School varsity boys basketball used a strong defensive effort in the first half Tuesday night to power past former 1-A/2-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference opponent Oakwood 68-40 in the first round of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A playoffs.
Greenfield, the No. 5 seed, improved to 18-15 overall and will take on No. 4 Trinity Christian (14-14) in Thursday’s 8:30 p.m. quarterfinal at Cary Academy. Oakwood, now a member of the Coastal Independent Conference, finished 11-11.
The Knights led 15-3 after one quarter and opened up a 44-17 edge in the second quarter. Greenfield carried a 63-24 edge entering the fourth quarter.
“The communication was there which led to a lot of great rotations, which led to some steals.,” Greenfield head coach Rob Salter said. “We turned their turnovers into easy transition baskets. Greenfield started off slow from the perimeter, but Luke Taylor got the Knights going from the perimeter.”
Senior Luke Taylor led the way with 21 points including a 5-for-8 effort from the 3-point line. Sophomore Coby White chipped in 19 and senior Jake Taylor had 10.
Donald Little led the Eagles with 10 points.
