Tonight marked the highly-anticipated return of Varsity Girls Soccer to Northside Christian Academy. After the program folded several years ago due to a lack of participation, the school restarted it last year with a small Middle School squad. This spring, 38 young ladies in Grades 6-11 have helped establish 2 solid teams (MS and Varsity) for the 2015 season.
The new Varsity team is very young. There are no Seniors on the roster, and the team has only 3 Juniors, 4 Sophomores, and 3 Freshmen. The other 10 roster spots were given to girls in Grades 7-8. Despite their youth and inexperience, the team is excited about a very bright and prosperous future as these young ladies improve and play together for the next several years.
The Lady Knights opened the 2015 campaign on the road against Hickory Grove. And while the final result was never in question, NCA played with a tremendous amount of fire and enthusiasm throughout.
Hickory Grove would score early and often, with the game ending in a lopsided 9-0 victory for the host Lions. HGC has a very talented squad and they are poised to accomplish a great deal this season.
For Northside, the play of Sophomore GK Olivia Ficklin, Freshman Alex Wright, 8th Grader Christiana McLean (also a MAC All-Conference Team selection in basketball), and Junior Caroline Horne, were among the bright spots which give the Lady Knights a reason to feel positive about the future.
FINAL: HGC 9, NCA 0
HT: HGC 4, NCA 0
Records: HGC 1-0, NCA 0-1
