Wayne Country Day dominates

Wayne Country Day played like a well-oiled machine Tuesday night. Great plays in transition, good 3-point attempts and brilliant moves to the basket defined the Wayne Country Day’s 61-10 win over Harrells Christian Academy.
“This win really signified who we are as a team,” Wayne Country Day head coach Maurice Jones said. “We came out and played great defense as we normally do, but our rebounding is what really got us the win.”
The Chargers set the court on fire in the first quarter. Wayne Country Day opened with a 20-0 lead, and forced 10 turnovers. In the second quarter, the Chargers continued the play well, and it became clear that the Crusaders were no match for the Chargers.
Wayne Country Day 6-3 run, and was up 33-3 at halftime.
“We like to press full court every game,” Jones said. “My senior guards really carried us. Langley Barnes was sick but she still gutted it out for the team, and Jala Holloman passed the ball magnificently.” Lexi Jeffreys provided 10 points in the third quarter, and she fought
for offensive rebounds and provided Bopportunities for her teammates to attack the basket. Wayne Country Day outscored Harrells Christian 14-5 to take a 47-8 lead going into the fourth quarter.
During the fourth quarter, the Chargers grew as large as 47 points in the fourth quarter. “We pride ourselves on defense,” said Jones. “We want to play hard, tough defense for the whole game.”
Jala Holloman led the Chargers with 18 points, while Jeffreys finished with 14 points.
The Chargers (8-1 overall) will next face Eastern Wayne on Thursday.
