Kwinton Hinson leads Village Christian to playoff win

Village Christian coach Kurtis Darden had a straight-forward game plan for his Knights in Saturday's first-round playoff contest against Carolina Day.
"We'd played them before and knew they didn't really have any shot blockers," Darden said. "It was basically, put your head down and take the ball to the basket."
Six-foot-four, 205-pound forward Kwinton Hinson liked the sound of it.
"That's basically what we've been doing all season," Hinson said. "That's my strength."
Hinson scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Knights to a 78-50 win over the Wildcats.
Village (19-12), the No. 6 seed in the NCISAA 2-A bracket, advanced to face No. 3 Concord First Assembly (22-8) on Thursday in Asheville at Carolina Day, which is the host site for the next two rounds.
The final is set for Saturday at the Asheville School.
This is Village's first year in the 2-A bracket after playing for years in the 3-A classification.
The Knights reached the 3-A semifinal last year before falling to the top-seeded team.
Carolina Day ended its season at 16-14.
Saturday's game was rescheduled from its original date, Tuesday, because of bad weather.
Hinson said he liked the delay.
"It gave me more time to rest my body," he said.
The Knights controlled the game from the start, feeding the ball inside to Hinson, who scored the Knight's first three baskets in less than two minutes and had 12 by the end of the first period.
The Knights led by 25 points, 42-17 at halftime, helped by a pair of 3-pointers by guard Michael Hueitt in the second quarter.
Hueitt finished with 12, and Juwan Wright added 14 for the Knights.
Guard Tyson Byers led the Wildcats with 13.
