Halifax Academy softball advances in the 2A NCISAA State Softball playoffs
Halifax Academy Lady Vikings softball team, seeded #2 in the 2A NCISAA State Softball Championship play-offs defeated #7 seed The Oakwood School Lady Eagles 9-0 in the first round Tuesday afternoon at Halifax Academy.
Ashlyn Cooke pitched entire game for the Lady Vikings with six strikeouts, two walks and allowed only three hits.
At the plate for the Lady Vikings, Morgan Hudomint had three singles, Berkley Garner had three singles and one RBI, Ashton Garner had two singles and three RBI’s, Ashlynn Liles had three singles and two RBI’s, Ashlyn Cooke had a double and two RBI’s, Ashton Knight had two singles, Senior Kayla Gaertner had three singles and Ella Howell had a single and one RBI.
The Halifax Academy Lady Vikings advance to the second round double elimination 2A NCISAA State Softball Tournament at Rocky Mount Academy with game time at Friday against winner of Tuesdays #3 seed Freedom Christian Academy vs #6 seed Harrell's Christian Academy.

Emily Winstead was anything but fair on Tuesday.
The Rocky Mount Academy freshman went untouched in the circle and guided the Eagles to a 10-0 win over visiting Salem Baptist Christian in the opening round of the NCISAA 2-A softball playoffs.
The top-seeded Eagles earned the run-rule win in five innings by scoring in every frame but the second. Katie Oliver went 2-for-4 with a team-high four RBIs for RMA, while Winstead added an RBI on a run-scoring double. Also, Gabbi Stewart had two hits.
The No. 8 Vikings didn’t record a hit, but they did have five baserunners. Winstead issued five walks in the game, but was able to mop up her free passes with 15 strikeouts. The Eagles defense didn’t need to work as each of the outs were recorded by Winstead.
