Greenfield makes quick work of Pungo

Senior Justin Holland tripled and added his sixth home run of the season while throwing five innings on the mound in leading the Greenfield School varsity baseball team to an 11-1, five-inning victory over Belhaven Pungo Christian in the opening round of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A playoffs Friday afternoon at Ralph Hodge Family Field.

Holland struck out eight without a walk as Greenfield (14-5), the No. 2 seed, moved into a Saturday quarterfinal matchup with No. 3 Halifax Academy.

William Smith and Jeremy Johnson each had two hits for the Knights, with Smith lacing a pair of doubles. Freshman Harrison Batchelor was 1 for 3 and drove in three runs.

Greenfield’s offense was responsible for nine hits, and produced the game-ending run in the bottom of the fifth.

Dylan Simmons drove in a run for Pungo (8-9) in the fourth.
