HP CHRISTIAN 1, CHARLOTTE COUNTRY DAY 0
CHARLOTTE — Sixth-seeded High Point Christian scored the only run of the game in the first and that was enough to defeat No. 6 seed Charlotte Country Day as Brody Lawson tossed a two-hit shutout on Friday in the second round of the NCISAA 3A playoffs.
HPCA improves to 18-10 and faces No. 2 seed and faces rival Wesleyan Christian at Ed Price Field in the semifinals on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Charlotte Country Day finishes 25-6.
Kameron Heath took advantage of CCD mistakes to score. He walked, went to second on a bad pickoff throw, went to third on a balk and scored on Lawson’s sacrifice fly.
Lawson (8-3) gave up two singles and struck out seven.
The Cougars won despite being held to two hits — one each by Carson Yates and Caleb Homol.
