HIGH POINT — The Wesleyan Christian Academy basketball teams each rolled to victories over Forsyth Country Day. The girls dominated from the opening tip, leading by 26 at the half before collecting a 61-41 victory. The boys used a third-quarter surge to turn the tide and grab a 90-66 win.

Entering the game with only seven players on their active roster, Forsyth Country Day hung with Wesleyan for the first half of the game. But the more talented and deeper Trojans prevailed.

The Furies led 27-25 at the end of the first quarter, led by 15 points from point guard Trent Green. The Trojans battled back, using a couple key 3-pointers and led 49-39 at the end of the first half.

“The guys started playing defense,” Wesleyan head coach Keith Gatlin said. “I’ve told them, if you play defense you can be in a position to win every game. We started slow again tonight, but once we started playing defense, we really picked it up.”

All night the Trojans showcased spectacular ball movement, with ever y player who entered the game scoring at least one point.

“We felt like we let one slip away on Tuesday night,” Gatlin said of the Trojans 51-46 loss to Greensboro Day, “We started slow and didn’t move the ball around enough. We didn’t getany points off our bench, and that really hurt us down the stretch, so it was nice to get involved tonight and get back on track.”

David Caraher led the Trojans with 25 points, while Ian Steere and Aaron Wiggins followed with 18 points apiece. Jaylen Hoard and Kyrie Thompson added eight points each for the Trojans.

“My teammates just got me the ball in the right spots,” Caraher said, “Because of their passing I was able to get open and get good shots off.”

At the half, Gatlin and the Trojans made key defensive adjustments, as they held the Furies to only 11 points in the third quarter, and stretched their lead to 68-50 by the end of the third period.

“We started defending better and forcing them to take tougher shots,” Gatlin said, “We also keyed in on their point guard defensively, he scored a lot on us in the fi rst half, but we just started really trying to lock him down.”

Green led the Furries with 32 points. Brandon Mayhen scored 16 and Ivan Millcevic added seven.

The Trojans will host cross-town rival High Point Christian Academy Tuesday night.

“We are clicking at the right time,” Caraher said, “We are playing as a team, we have great chemistry, we all like playing together, and we all truly love each other, and that’s going to carry us the rest of this year.”
