Asheville School
Coach: Gus Schill
2018 record: 8-4
Playoffs: Lost 39-8 in DIII NCISAA championship against Village Christian Academy
Returning starters: 14 (7 offense, 7 defense)
Offense: Spread option
Defense: Three front
Key players: Kris Castro, Jr.; Thomas Good, LB, Sr.; Richard Viso, DE, Sr.; Tysac Watcha, ILB, Sr.
Player to watch: Chris Hemphill, QB, Sr.;
Carrying the ball for a 1,112 yards last season and scoring 17 touchdowns, Hemphill will be joined again by Conner Davis to create a powerful two-quarterback offense.
Breakdown:
Schill said his team has matured nicely during the past few seasons. The team lost Uchenna Ikwaukor, who rushed for 897 yards, and Titus Morrison, who ran and received for another 1,537, but Schill said he has a plan to bring back another monster offense. After a squeaky-close 33-28 win over Southlake Christian in the semifinals, the Blues made it to the NCISAA Division III final against Village Christian where they struggled to make any ground. Schill says they learned a lot from the last half of the season and hope to keep that aggressive play style up in 2019.
