Knights open with 95-50 rout of Hawks
The Greenfield School varsity boys basketball team, missing its two graduated superstars from last season, unveiled its new-look 2018-19 edition with ad 95-50 blowout of the Raleigh Hawks in the Greenfield School gym on Thursday.
Five players scored in double figures as the Knights, who reached the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A semifinals last season behind Coby White (University of North Carolina) and Elijah McCadden (Georgia Southern). bolted to a 25-8 lead after one quarter and boosted the margin to 56-26 at intermission.
“We came out and Trey Pittman and Acari Outlaw got us going early,” said veteran Greenfield head coach Rob Salter. “We just pushed tempo and kept pressuring the ball. We moved with a purpose and hit open gaps.”
Pittman, a 6-foot-6 junior returnee, drillled in a game-high 19 points and claimed five rebounds. Outlaw, a 6-4 junior who is also back from last season, tossed in 13 points. Also in double figures were 6-1 junior newcomer Creighton Lebo, the son of former Tar Heels star and former East Carolina University head coach Jeff Lebo, with 16 points. Jordan Lynch, a 6-1 junior, and 6-7 junior Jahmi Foster each netted 10. Ten Knights scored.
Lebo paced Greenfield with 10 rebounds.
“This, put four or five guys in double figures a night, is what we can do,” Salter assured.
Of Lebo’s performance, Salter responded: “He does everything right. He rebounds and talks; what he does has really leaked to the other guys.”
Greenfield anticipates a sterner test when it visits Ravenscroft of Raleigh on Wednesday.
