The Burlington School 3-star PF Kuluel Mading commits to Howard

BURLINGTON, N.C. — The Burlington School senior power forward Kuluel Mading went on Instagram Live over the weekend to announce his college decision.
Mading committed to Howard University, an HBCU that is located in the Washington D.C. area. He was also receiving interest from Clemson, East Carolina, NC Central, Providence, Tulsa, Virginia Commonwealth (VCU), and UNCG. All of those Division-I programs made his final eight schools list that was released to the public back in August.
The Bison were able to land five-star center Makur Maker from Hillcrest Prep (AZ) for their 2020 recruiting class. Mading follows in his footsteps to play for now second-year head basketball coach Kenneth Blakeney — had a 4-29 record during the 2019-20 season.
Mading stands 6-foot-9 and weighs 190 pounds. He is rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports.com. The recruiting website also lists him as the No. 8 overall player from North Carolina, the No. 29 power forward in the Class of 2021, and the No. 162 player nationally.
The Burlington School finished 25-11 overall in its 2019-20 campaign, while going unbeaten (10-0) in Mid-Carolina Conference play. The Spartans are now an independent NCISAA 2A school — like Wesleyan Christian (High Point).
During the 1A state playoffs earlier in the calendar, TBS reeled off wins versus Community Christian School (97-40), United Faith Christian Academy (76-31), and Greenfield School (90-82) prior to going after a championship.
The Spartans fell short of winning the aforementioned state title after dropping a 47-44 bout against Northwood Temple Academy back on Feb. 22.
Throughout the recruiting process, Mading received 16 scholarship offers. Elon, Hampton, Old Dominion, Radford, San Jose State, UNCW, Western Carolina, and Wichita State were pursuing his services at the next level.
Mading averaged 15 points per game on 72 percent shooting from the field as a junior, while grabbing nine rebounds and recording 2.5 blocks each outing on average.
Back in Aug. 2019, Mading took to social media and announced that would be transferring from High Point Central High School, re-classifying to the 2021 graduating class, and attending The Burlington School moving forward.
Shortly after Mading’s commitment, The Burlington School opened its 2020-21 season by facing Concord Academy in Phenom’s Tip-Off Classic. That event took place down in Rock Hill, South Carolina and Mading recorded 10 points in the Spartans’ 75-62 neutral site victory on Saturday.
