Concord resident signs with 49ers
CHARLOTTE – Jackson Threadgill, a Concord resident currently playing high school basketball at Davidson Day School, signed a National Letter of Intent with the Charlotte 49ers Wednesday.
Threadgill, a 6-foot-6 guard, played at Concord High School before transferring during his sophomore season.
Threadgill joins a 2020-21 roster which will have seven players who played high school basketball in North Carolina and five players from the Charlotte area, including former Cox Mill star Caleb Stone-Carrawell.
“We are thrilled by the addition of Jackson Threadgill to Niner Nation,” Charlotte coach Ron Sanchez said. “He is no stranger to these parts, having been born and raised down the road in Concord. Jackson brings a level of toughness, skill and IQ that will be a welcomed addition to our team. He had many other options for his future, but he had a strong desire to represent this university and this community. We genuinely appreciate his love for this city.”
Threadgill is ranked as one of the top 20 players in the state of North Carolina by 247Sports. He is ranked among the Top 50 shooting guards in the nation by Rivals. This past season, Threadgill earned All-State honors after averaging 17 points while shooting 45 percent from beyond the 3-point line, 53 percent from the field and 82 percent from the free-throw line.
“Jackson is committed to being the best basketball player that he can be,” Davidson Day coach Ron Johnson said. “In 20 years of coaching, I have not coached many guys with a better work ethic than Jackson. He is committed to getting better as a player every day. Jackson is a versatile player that is deceptively athletic. He is a really good shooter that can score at all three levels.”
Last season, Threadgill played a major role in helping Davidson Day go 20-5, which is the best record that the school has had since the 2011-12 season. He helped Davidson Day reach the state playoffs for the first time in four years while defeating state power Carmel Christian during the regular season.
Threadgill also played at Winkler Middle School for Rod Howard, who played for the 49ers from 1993-97.
“Charlotte is the best fit for me on and off the court,” Threadgill said. “The relationship I built with Coach Sanchez and the coaching staff throughout this process played a big part in choosing Charlotte. Charlotte’s style of play really suits me. The program is heading in the right direction, and I know I will be most successful playing for Coach Sanchez and the Charlotte 49ers.”
