BREAKING: UT grad transfer G Jalen Johnson commits to Wake
Tennessee grad transfer guard Jalen Johnson has committed to Wake Forest, according to his Twitter account Monday afternoon.
The Durham, North Carolina native who played high school along with Brandon Childress at Wesleyan Christian (High Point, N.C.) was planning on completing his college eligibility at East Tennessee State, but changed plans and chose to follow coach Steve Forbes to Wake Forest. Johnson redshirted as a freshman for the Vols, and entered the transfer portal on March 23. He decided to join the Buccaneers on April 10.
“Jalen is an extremely gifted offensive player who can really score the ball, especially from behind the 3-point line,” Forbes said in a press release announcing Johnson's addition at ETSU. “He’s long, athletic and gives us added size and experience on the perimeter. Jalen is a very mature young man and is someone I expect to provide leadership to our team on and off the court.
"His experience playing and practicing at Tennessee provides Jalen an invaluable asset towards his future success at ETSU.”
Johnson scored 107 points, grabbed 63 rebounds and dished 30 assists for the Vols as a junior last season, averaging 15.7 minutes played a contest.
"I wanted to play for a coach who creates opportunities for his players to be successful, cultivates an environment for positive relationships on and off the court, and demands both hard work and team work," Johnson told GoVols247's Grant Ramey about his transfer to ETSU. "I believe that I’ve found all of that with Coach Forbes and ETSU.”
