Providence Day baseball coach Jim Cerbie recently won his 400th game.
Cerbie has coached the Chargers for 29 years and has led the program to three state championships – in 1988, 1997 and 1998. Providence Day was state runner-up in 1992, 1996 and 2013. Cerbie’s teams have won six conference titles.

In 1998, the Observer and the American Baseball Coaches Association named him coach of the year.
“I would like to take a moment to thank the people who have had such an impact on me personally as the baseball coach at Providence Day,” Cerbie said. “Twenty-nine years ago, athletics director Bill Rogers took a chance on a young coach to come in and take over the baseball program. I am forever grateful for that opportunity.”
Cerbie’s team is 13-4 this season. The Chargers have won seven in row, including unbeaten runs through the Disney Spring Break Classic and the local Jack Sink Easter Tournament.
