APA rolls past Fayetteville Academy Thursday

The third time was the charm for Arendell Parrott.

The Patriots defeated Fayetteville Academy 11-0 Thursday, playing in their third game in as many nights. APA (3-2) fell to North Raleigh Christian Tuesday and Ridgecroft Wednesday, but never looked back in a match with the Eagles (1-4).

“We played really good defense and I was proud of their efforts,” APA coach Robert Kravitz said. “The biggest change was that we swung the bat — last night, we didn’t swing until it was too late (in a 9-8 loss to Ridgecroft), but today we came out guns blazing, put the pedal down and never let up.”

The Patriots broke a scoreless tie in the second inning, as Garrett Byrd’s bases-loaded one-out single started the scoring. After a balk brought in another run, Jojo Ferebee’s 2-run single made it 4-0. One inning later, RBI singles from Taylor Llewellyn and Hodges Manning extended the advantage to six.

The Patriots’ best inning came in the fourth, as the first five batters reached base. An error on a Luke Corbett grounder brought in one run, followed by Hunter Pope’s 2-run single to make it 9-0. Three batters later, an error on a Manning grounder brought in two more.

“We actually hit the ball today, (made) less errors, threw strikes,” Pope said. “(I) stayed behind the ball (and) made some minor adjustments at the plate.”

Ferebee had more than enough run support as he only allowed two hits in the shutout.

“It was relieving because I’m only an eighth-grader,” Ferebee said. “I’ve never started on varsity (and) I tried to do my best.”

The Patriots’ next game is at home against High Point Christian Friday.
