Three-star Burlington School forward Kuluel Mading commits to MAC school

The Burlington School’s Kuluel Mading has a new college home.
Mading, a former Howard commit who helped the Spartans win a state championship in March, announced last Friday he’ll play his college basketball at the University of Buffalo in western New York.
A three-star recruit and the No. 10 player in North Carolina’s class of 2021, Mading earned 20-plus scholarship offers last year as a versatile power forward who stands at 6-foot-9 and 190 pounds.
He committed to Howard last November but decommitted from the school in January, midway through his senior season at The Burlington School. Mading told the Fayetteville Observer in February he’d heard from Georgia, Georgetown, Wichita State and UNC-Greensboro since decommitting.
Mading averaged a near double-double for the Spartans during their NCISAA 2-A championship run and scored 15 points in The Burlington School’s redemptive title win over Northwood Temple Academy.
At Buffalo, Mading will join a Bulls team that won 10 of its last 12 games this spring, surging to the Mid-American Conference championship game and qualifying for the National Invitational Tournament.
Buffalo is coached by Jim Whitesell, who is 36-21 in two seasons. The Bulls’ previous two head coaches, Bobby Hurley and Nate Oats, were hired away by Arizona State and Alabama, respectively.
