GREENSBORO -Wesleyan Christian wanted to prove it's one of the best area baseball teams overall, not just among private schools.

And, with Saturday's 3-0 victory against Southeast Guilford to win the Farm Bureau Invitational at NewBridge Bank Park, the Trojans went a long way toward doing that.

Wesleyan ranked No. 3 among NCISAA 3A teams, scored once in each of the first, third and fifth innings, while pitcher Riley Isenhour settled in and threw a complete-game shutout.

"It was an outstanding performance by Riley Isenhour, my junior left-hander," Trojans coach Scott Davis said. "We knew he'd be able to control the tempo of the game, and he did a fantastic job.

"And anytime you play in environment like this against a team like Southeast Guilford, which is the No. 1 team in the Triad, and win, it says a lot about your program. So, we're very excited. It was a great game tonight."

Isenhour (4-0) scattered six hits while walking none and striking out four. He allowed two hits in each of the first two innings and then limited the Falcons (9-5) to just two hits and three baserunners overall over the final five innings.

Southeast finished the game with just one runner reaching second or third.

"Everybody played good," said Isenhour, who picked off three baserunners. "They're No. 1 in our area, and we made our statement. It was a really good win against a good team, and so it was a pretty good statement we made to everybody.

"I think I did pretty good out there," he said of his performance. "But congrats to all our hitters. When you have people hitting behind you, it just makes it that much easier on the mound."

Meanwhile, Wesleyan had timely hits at the plate, moved runners well and capitalized with key hits. Jake Moebius went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, while Patrick Bailey went 3 for 4 with a double and two runs, and Beau Myers added a double.

The Trojans, with runners on first and third and one out, scored on an errant throw by the catcher to lead 1-0 in the first. Then, Moebius had RBI singles with two outs in the third and fifth innings to give Wesleyan a 3-0 lead.

-"It felt great - a good team win," Moebius said. "We played together, got a lot of timely hits. We played a really good team, and we had to make a statement. Getting that lead was huge. We knew we'd do something big with Riley on the mound. …

"This is huge," he said of the tournament win. "This is starting to bring us toward the state tournament part of the season. And being in pressure situations like this, it'll pay tribute to what we'll do down the road."

Bailey Steed took the loss on the mound for the Falcons, allowing seven hits and five walks while striking out five in seven innings. Carmine Pagano and Noah Marley each had two hits at the plate.

The Trojans visit R.J. Reynolds on Monday before returning to PACIS 2A/3A play Tuesday at home against Greensboro Day.
