Three local schools will participate in a talented high school basketball field in November’s third annual Phenom National Showcase.

Reigning N.C. Independent Schools 3A champ and DICKS’ Nationals quarterfinalist Providence Day is in the field along with York Prep (S.C.) and N.C. private school power Cannon School out of Concord. The national field is led by Oak Hill (VA), which finished 45-1 last season and won the mythical DICKS’ national championship in New York City last spring. Oak Hill’s only loss was to 22 Feet Academy (S.C.) at the Phenom event last year.

The tournament, featuring 23 teams from six states, is Nov. 11-12 at Greensboro Day School. All games will be streamed nationally by Flo Sports. Several players are expected to sign or commit to colleges during the halftime shows.

As for the games, York Prep will play 22 Feet Academy Nov. 11 and N.C. 3A private school power Greensboro Day on Nov. 12. Cannon will play Oak Hill on Nov. 12. Cannon’s 6-8 forward Jairus Hamilton is ranked among the nation’s top 15 players in the class of 2018, higher than any N.C. player, by at least one publication. Providence Day will play Bishop Sullivan (VA) and Greenfield School. Greenfield features top 100 recruit and UNC commit Coby White, a 6-foot-5 point guard.

In its first two seasons, four players who played in this event went onto become McDonald’s All-Americans: Dwayne Bacon, Thomas Bryant, Sacha Killeya-Jones and Miles Bridges. And more than 30 players who participated have signed to play at high-major colleges from one of the power 5 conferences. In all, more than 60 former participants have signed Division I scholarships.

This year, there are more than 20 players participating who are ranked among the nation’s top 100 in their class by various publications.

Those players include: Billy Preston (Oak Hill), Matt Coleman (Oak Hill), Lindell Wigginton (Oak Hill), Devontae Shuler (Oak Hill), Tyshon Alexander (Oak Hill), Kenny Nwuba (Oak Hill), Giir Ring (Christ School), Mumin Tunc (22 Feet), DJ Burns (York Prep), Oscar Tshiewbe (Mountain Mission), JJ Smith (Northwood Temple), Brandon Huffman (Word of God), Blake Harris (Word of God), Christian Lorng (Wesley Christian), Coby White (Greenfield), Devon Dotson (Providence Day), Rasir Bolton (Bishop Sullivan), Josiah James (Porter Gaud), Nick Claxton (Legacy Charter), Jairus Hamilton (Cannon School), Jamir Chaplin (Meadowbrook), and John Newman (Greensboro Day).

▪ Tickets will be $15 daily for adults and $10 for students. For more information, visit phenomhoopreport.com
