The Burlington School alum John Meeks selected to All-Patriot League third team for second straight season
Bucknell forward John Meeks of Burlington was named to the All-Patriot League third team for a second straight season in men’s basketball, the league announced Tuesday.
Meeks, the 2016-17 Times-News All-Region Player of the Year as a high school senior at The Burlington School, earned a spot on the all-conference team after appearing in just four games during this abbreviated season.
He missed the first four games with an injury, then Bucknell’s program was paused for four weeks due to positive COVID-19 tests, resulting in the Bison playing just 10 regular-season games. Meeks sat out the final two games due to COVID protocols.
The 6-foot-6, 224-pound senior made the most of his limited action, averaging 24.5 points and 6.3 rebounds, with all four of his appearances coming against Lehigh, a Patriot League Central Division foe. Meeks made 49.2 percent of his shot attempts from the field, 38.9 percent from 3-point range and 87.9 percent from the free throw line.
Bucknell finished the regular season with a 4-6 record, going 4-0 in games in which Meeks played and 0-6 when he did not appear.
On two occasions, Meeks poured in more than 30 points, helping him earn Patriot League Player of the Week honors twice. He supplied a then-career-high 31 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in a 77-61 victory at Lehigh on Jan. 17. A couple of weeks later, he provided 32 points in a 92-68 victory against visiting Lehigh on Jan. 31.
