Two of the most consistent players in the short history of The Burlington School’s boys’ basketball program are headed to Catawba and Randolph-Macon in the steps in their careers.

T.J. Jeffers signed with Division II Catawba and Terry Woods is headed to Division III Randolph-Macon, both honored in a ceremony at the school’s Davis Street campus last week.

Woods, a four-year starter at point guard, is the only player to have played in all 125 games in school history, that including a 119-6 record and two North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 1-A state championships. Jeffers played in 124 of those games and leaves as the program leader with 90 successful 3-pointers and about 250 steals.

Jeffers, a Times-News All-Region selection this past season, made his biggest impact on the defensive end — something that doesn’t always translate to gaining recruiting buzz.

“It was a lot harder because it feels like that’s all coaches care about is scoring points,” Jeffers said. “But I really feel like (Catawba) Coach (Rob) Perron, he knows how versatile I am, how much I’m willing to play all sides of the ball.”

Woods’ decision came down to Randolph-Macon, the school in Ashland, Va., or Catholic University. An official visit earlier this month to Randolph Macon “sealed the deal,” Woods said.

“I think I’ve grown a lot as a player, mentally and physically, learning and actually taking the role of the point guard spot, becoming more vocal and leading on and off the court,” Woods said of his development across four seasons as a point guard for the Spartans.
