The SouthLake Christian boys showed they could compete with some of the area’s best public schools. Led by guard Christian Monroe and 7-footer Micah Handlogten, the Eagles took second place at the East Lincoln Winter Jam with wins over Lake Norman Charter and East Lincoln before falling 67-58 to champion Jay M. Robinson in the finale.

The third-place game provided perhaps the event’s most anticipated matchup. Lake Norman took down East Lincoln 61-56 via clutch free-throw shooting from freshman Tre McKinnon.
The Wildcats (10-2) demonstrated balanced scoring, with Cole Callaway scoring 14, McKinnon 13 and Trent Steinhour 10.
In East’s second loss of the tournament – and season – Drew Bean scored 18 en route to all-tournament honors, while Jeremiah Jones had 14 and Landon Glezen 12.
After falling to the eventual champion, Hough bounced back to win its next two games. The Huskies took down Ashbrook 64-58 then LNC 70-55 behind super-efficient outings from Rashad McCormick and Mason Smith. McCormick poured in 31 points on just 20 shots, while Smith had 23 on 10-of-12 shooting.
Freshman James Carswell was LNC’s lone all-tournament honoree, scoring a team-high 19 against Hough.
