Moravian Prep gets second win of the day against Trinity Academy in Brandon Ingram MLK Classic
Moravian Prep loves to play basketball.
The passion was evident in the team’s 79-55 win over Trinity Academy Saturday in the Brandon Ingram MLK Classic. The Lions played against Virginia Academy earlier in the day in Rocky Mount, hitting a state record 31 3-pointers in the contest before defeating the Tigers.
“We wanted to play here,” Moravian Prep coach Jeremy Ellis said. “We know Kinston is a basketball town, we love the environment here and there’s no other place we wanted to be.”
There were four lead changes early on before Moravian Prep took control. The Lions jumped out to a 21-13 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 16 late in the half after a Lane Lauderbaugh basket. Moravian Prep took a 40-26 lead into the break.
The Lions kept up the momentum in the second half, never letting the Tigers cut the lead to single digits.
For Moravian Prep, Justin Banks had 14 points and eight rebounds, Lauderbaugh had 14 points and six rebounds, Jackson Holt had 14 points and four rebounds and Eli Ellis provided 13 points and four assists. For Trinity Academy, Sam Perez had 20 points and seven rebounds with Noah Ross adding 16 points and five rebounds.
