The Burlington School holds off Heritage, 59-50

Raleigh, N.C. — The Burlington School took down Heritage, 59-50, in the opening round of the Ky Bowman Bracket at the John Wall Holiday Invitational on Thursday afternoon.

The first quarter was tightly contested. Burlington School took claim to an early lead but Heritage was able to knock shots down late to take a 14-12 lead at the conclusion of the first eight minutes of play.

The Spartans shots started falling in the second quarter. Burlington School took advantage with a great outside in attack.

JaDun Michael led the team with 15 points in the first half on 6-7 shooting from the field and knocked down three triples in the half. Mylyjael Poteat anchored the interior with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Burlington School was able to outscored Heritage 22-9 in the second stanza and took a nine point lead into the halftime break.

The momentum carried over in the second half.

The Spartans continued to find the bottom of the net and grew their lead to as large as 20 points in the third quarter but the Huskies trimmed away at the deficit and cut it to 47-32 heading into the final quarter of play.

Heritage found a rhythm late. The Huskies cut the deficit to as little as seven points but did not get close as Burlington School secured the opening round win.

Poteat led Burlington School on the night with 20 points, 16 rebounds and four assists. JaDun Michael ended with 19 points in the game.

Heritage was led by Redford Dunton who scored 19 points and Lucas Taylor helped out with 17 points.
