The Burlington School boys defend court in winning tournament

Terry Woods hit a layup in the final minute and The Burlington School held off High Point Christian Academy 38-36 in the championship game of the Spartan Classic on Saturday in boys’ basketball.

“We overcame a very bad shooting night,” coach Ron Johnson said.

Jordan Jeffries and Jordan Nelson led the Spartans (4-0) with seven points apiece. Nelson added six rebounds.

Jalen Seegars scored 16 points and Reece Bogan chipped in 12 to lead the Cougars (1-1).

-- In girls' basketball, The Burlington School let a 12-point halftime lead slip away and Northwood Temple Academy defeated the Spartans 70-64 in the championship game of the Spartan Classic.

Aniyah Vanhook had 24 points to lead The Burlington School (2-1). Molina Williams added 12 points, 19 rebounds and six assists while Elizabeth Rice chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds.

Kendal Moore led all-scorers with 32 points, including 18-for-21 from the free throw line for Northwood Temple Academy.
