Both teams battled to begin the game and fought back and forth. At the end of the first quarter, the game was knotted up at 15 apiece.The game heated up in the second quarter as both teams continued to trade baskets.Bishop jumped to a 10-point lead, but the Eagles answered with two 3-point-ers to cut the defi cit to four points.
The Villains led 35-32 at halftime.To start the second half, Bishop went on a 5-0 run to extend the lead to eight.
“I thought the whole game it was kind of like we were running in quicksand,” Bishop varsity boys coach Josh Thompson said. “We just couldn’t get going, just couldn’t get a spark.”
At the end of the third quarter, Bishop led 49-41.The Villains padded their lead to 55-42 but the Eagles answered with a basket and two 3-pointers to cut the mar-gin to 55-49.Despite Caldwell’s push, Bishop pulled away at the end with some free throws to get the victor y.Noah Allred fi nished with 10 points for the Villains.
The win took the Villains to 7-1 overall heading into their games against R.J. Reynolds on Friday and North Rowan on Saturday, both of which are on the road.
“We’ve got a lot that we can look at on film from this game that we didn’t do well,” Thompson said. “We’re a young team and we need to learn from it. We’ve got two ver y athletic teams (this weekend).”Caldwell fell to 3-8.
