CCS falls at Wayne Christian 76-40

GOLDSBORO — The Community Christian School boys basketball team fell behind early and never rebounded in dropping a 76-40 Carolina Christian Conference game at Wayne Christian on Friday night.

“We missed six open layups in the first quarter,” CCS head coach Ronnie Wells said. “We hung our heads a bit and didn’t get back on defense. It was lack of effort and maybe we were a little intimidated.”

Michael Haney led the Cyclones with 13 points, while Andrew Gattis and Rieshod Baines each had eight.

Ty McClain led the Eagles with 20.

CCS, now 5-13 overall and 2-8 within CCC games, will host Grace Christian of Sanford on Monday at 7 p.m. at the ENC School for the Deaf.

COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN (40)

Haney 13, Gattis 8, Baines 8, Winstead 5, Stone 4, Scott 2, Webb, Carroll, Williams, Piccolo.

WAYNE CHRISTIAN (76)

McClain 20, Amafule 11, Oaks 14, Wellington 6, Simmons 4, Kornegay 4, White 2, Weeks 2, Tabe 2.

Score by quarters:

CCS 6 10 15 9 — 40
