Charlotte Country Day football coach Bob Witman will retire at the end of this school year after 25 years leading the Bucs, according to a release from the school.

Witman will leave as the winningest coach in school history, compiling a record of 219-67 since he came to Country Day in 1990.

He also led the Bucs to eight state championships: 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2010.

"Coach Witman has a unique ability to develop student-athletes as both football players and as young men, and to build teams that consistently outperform expectations," Director of Athletics Abe Wehmiller said in the release. "The passion he has for his work with our kids is evident in everything he does. I'm disappointed I won't get to work with him longer than I did, but know his impact on this program will live on even after his departure."

Country Day will begin the process of hiring a new coach later this week, according to the release from the school, and hopes to have a new coach at the school by mid-April. Witman will stay at the school through June to help with the transition.
