Ardrey Kell girls basketball coach Jeff Buseick is moving to Charlotte Latin.
Buseick was hired at the southeast Charlotte private school after an extensive national search that included more than 200 applicants.
He replaces former Charlotte Latin girls basketball coach Charisse Mapp, who resigned in March after a seven-year run as coach. Mapp was 101-78 at Latin and won back-to-back CISAA conference championships in the 2017-18 season and in 2018-19.
“I’m grateful for this incredible honor to join Charlotte Latin School and have the opportunity to lead the girls’ basketball program,” Buseick said. “This is a prestigious school with incredible people, a strong tradition of excellence, and an outstanding community that is second to none. I’m excited and have high expectations for our student-athletes and the program going forward.”
At Ardrey Kell, Buseick taught health and physical education for nine years. He was an assistant on Knights football and basketball teams before becoming head girls coach in 2014. Quickly establishing the Knights as a regional power, Buseick ran up a record of 137-39.
In his six years as head coach at Ardrey Kell, the Knights had five seasons with 20 or more wins.
He was named N.C. Basketball Coaches Association District 9 coach of the year after the 2017-18 season.
Buseick, a Weddington High School and UNC Charlotte graduate, played high school football (at quarterback) and basketball (point guard). He now lives in Indian Land with his wife, Anna, and two daughters. The couple is expecting another child this summer.
At Latin, Buseick will teach physical education.
“We are excited to welcome Jeff Buseick to Charlotte Latin School,” Latin athletic director David Gatoux. “Through a track record of inspiring his teams to achieve excellence both on and off the court, he has distinguished himself as one the of the top girls’ basketball coaches in the area and we look forward to his positive influence in our community.”
