Christ School hires new head football coach

ARDEN - With less than two months before its season opener, Christ School has hired its new head football coach.

Nick Luhm, who has been Christ School's defensive coordinator since 2014, was named the Greenies' new coach on July 9 after former coach Tommy Langford accepted a position as a nickleback coach at UNC Charlotte in late June.

Langford led Christ School to a 10-2 record in 2018 and advanced to the NCISAA Division I state championship game, where the Greenies lost 43-14 to Charlotte Christian.

Before working at Christ School, Luhm was a defensive coordinator at Broughton High School in Raleigh. The Greenies open the 2019 season on Aug. 30 against University Christian of Jacksonville, Fla.

“I am happy for Nick and his family," Christ School athletic direcor Eric Thorp said in a press release. "I am confident that Coach Luhm’s relationships with our current players will bode well in preparing the team for the 2019 season and will keep the continuity in our successful program intact.”

Christ School had been the only private or public WNC school without a head football coach.
