Christ School names new head basketball coach

Christ School has named its new head basketball coach.

Less than a month since the departure of Jeff Depelteau, the school tabbed assistant coach Matt Cioce as his replacement on April 11.

Cioce was Christ School's assistant coach during the 2018-19 season, helping to lead the Greenies (16-14) to a conference title and the NCISAA 4A state championship game.

Cioce attended Christ School for four year and was a member of the varsity basketball team from 2011-2013.

“We are excited to have Coach Cioce take the reigns of a program that he has been a part of not only as a player, but also as a coach this past season," Christ School Athletic Director Eric Thorp said in a press release. "Matt understands the expectations on the student-athletes as members of the Christ School community and his emphasis on discipline and skill development blends very well with his player-focused approach.

Cioce will be Christ School's third head basketball coach in the past three years. Depelteau was elevated to head coach in November of 2017 after former coach Scott Willard resigned. Depelteau resigned in March.
