CCS survives stall ball to win in OT
GREENVILLE — Action found itself in short supply in the waning stages of Tuesday’s 1-A/2-A Coastal Independents Conference varsity girls basketball clash in The Oakwood School gym.
With Community Christian School serving as the host on a neutral floor, visiting Winterville Christ Covenant committed itself to holding the basketball for the final 2:30 of regulation and a majority of the ensuing overtime period.
However, CCS (5-13) foiled the plan late in overtime.
MiChaeyla Lee grabbed a rebound of a Logan Vaughan free-throw miss and stuck it back in with 10 seconds remaining, and CCS’s pressure defense was sufficient enough not to allow a quality look at the basket before time expired in a 28-26 Lady Cyclones victory.
Vaughan, a junior, led the way with 10 points. Classmate Alexis Langley had 10 points and five blocks as Christ Covenant committed itself to a box-and-1 approach on junior Olivia Walker.
Christ Covenant dipped to 7-12 overall.
