BOYS BASKETBALL: Boothe's big basket helps cfa Academy defeat Northside Christian, clinch MAC championship
CHARLOTTE – Junior guard Issac Boothe drove in for a leaning layup in traffic with four seconds remaining, and his bucket provided the decisive points in the cfa Academy boys basketball team’s dramatic 53-51 road victory over Northside Christian Tuesday night.
The victory clinched the Metrolina Athletic Conference championship for the Cream of Cabarrus No. 1-ranked Eagles, who improved to 28-3 overall and 11-0 in league play.
Northside Christian (19-7, 9-2 MAC) now sits in second place in the conference standings.
The game was back and forth all night long. The Eagles held a slim 26-24 lead at halftime, but Northside Christian knotted the game at 36 going into the fourth quarter.
Senior Furman University signee Garrett Hien tallied 16 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles. Junior guard Trae Benham had 14 points, Javian Cannady added 11, and Booth finished with five points.
cfa Academy wraps up the regular season on Friday at SouthLake Christian.
