cfa Academy gets 11th win in row as coach nears personal record

HIGH POINT – The No. 1-ranked boys basketball team in Cabarrus County just keeps on rolling.

And rolling.

On Friday night, cfa Academy got off to a hot start and never slowed down as the Eagles routed High Point Wesleyan, 70-37, to win their 11th game in a row.

The Eagles, who this week made their debut as the top team in the Independent Tribune’s Cream of Cabarrus Boys Basketball Rankings, upped their record to 27-3 on the season.

That win total ties a personal best for cfa Academy coach Frank Cantadore II, who’s been leading the Eagles for nine seasons and also collected 27 victories during the 2013-14 and the 2018-19 campaigns.

This is the eighth season a row that the Eagles have won at least 22 games under Cantadore.

On Friday night, the Eagles were led by talented junior guard Trae Benham, who tallied 31 points. Senior forward Garrett Hien had 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots, and senior point guard Lloyd Latta had 14 points.

Also for cfa Academy, junior guard Isaac Boothe collected 10 assists, and center Cheick Traore grabbed 15 rebounds.
