The Greenfield School boys basketball team set up the rubber match with Freedom Christian Academy of Fayetteville for the 1-A Coastal Plain Independents Conference tournament championship with a 77-64 victory over Wayne Country Day on Friday night.
The Patriots advanced with an easy victory over Pope John Paul II earlier in the day to improve to 21-6.
The Knights (23-8) will host the championship game Saturday at 6 p.m. Freedom won at home on Jan. 20 by a 65-62 score and Greenfield claimed the game in Wilson 54-53 on Feb. 5.
It is also a rematch of last year's championship game - won by Greefield 70-69 in Greenville.
On Friday, the Knights came out sluggish and trailed at the end of the first (20-19), second (42-39) and third (58-56) quarters.
"We came out very sluggish," Knights head coach Rob Salter said. "Defensively, we were terrible in the first half. We didn't get back in transition. You've got to give Wayne Country Day credit, they made their shots and kept the pressure on us."
In the fourth quarter, Salter said, Greenfield decided to play defense the way it can.
The result was a 21-6 whitewashing over the last eight minutes, keyed by stellar play from guard Tyler Maye.
"Tyler really got going," Salter said of the freshman who had 21 points.
Senior forward Will Crandell led Greenfield with 23 points, while Dwanya Williams-Sutton had nine and senior A.J. Sanders eight.
WAYNE COUNTRY DAY (64)
Cooley 4, Townsend 3, Miller 12, Muhammed 8, Waters 11, Ford 7, Davis 19.
GREENFIELD (77)
Maye 21, Williams-Sutton 9, Crandall 23, Sanders 8, C. White 5, I. White 6, L. Taylor 5, Taybron, J. Taylor.
Score by quarters:
Wayne CD 20 22 16 6 - 64
Greenfield 19 20 17 21 - 77
