CROSS-COUNTRY (PRIVATE SCHOOLS) Charlotte Country Day captured its first 4A girls’ state title in the meet, held Friday at Olsen Park in Wilmington. The Buccaneers’ Kasey Cone edged Providence Day’s Blane McElroy for individual honors, with the Bucs’ Linda Fonville third. Durham Academy and Cary Academy finished 2-3 behind boys’ 4A champion Christ School.
In 3A, Cary Christian’s Tori Stonebraker was the girls’ state champion, with Asheville School taking the team title. Coastal Christian was the 3A boys’ champ, with Gaston Christian’s Adam Hoyle and Connor Nanney running 2-3.
Davidson Day was the 2A boys’ champ, and Raleigh’s Trinity Academy took the girls’ title, behind freshman Morgan Pennington, the individual winner. Sanford Grace Christian (boys) and Oakwood School (girls) won in 1A
