Davidson Day standouts receive Greater Charlotte basketball awards

Several Davidson Day basketball players were honored in the Greater Charlotte Basketball Awards June 9-10.

Recent grads off the Patriots’ 2020 NCISAA 2A state championship team, Mark Breunig received the Scholar Athlete Award and Jackson Threadgill took home the Player of the Year Award.

Both players had huge games in the state championship game. Threadgill, a Charlotte signee, scored 30 points, as Breunig contributed 12 points and six rebounds in the blowout in over Wayne Country Day. Breunig also was a regular on the school’s Headmaster List for achieving an unweighted grade-point average of 3.67 or higher.

A two-time state champion at Davidson Day, rising senior Mallorie Haines was named Offensive Player of the Year. The Davidson College commit scored 26.1 points last season and converted on 51 percent of her 164 3-point attempts.

The second annual Greater Charlotte Basketball Awards honor the best of the top basketball student-athletes, scholars and leaders in the Charlotte area. They place athletics, academics and character as vital components in the selection process. Last year’s local honorees were Hopewell’s Brice Williams and Community School of Davidson’s Brandon Ellington.
