Trojans send senior Dunk off in style
Bethel Christian finishes regular season 4-3
The Trojans of Bethel Christian Academy sent it’s lone senior, running back and defensive back Cody Dunk, off on senior night in the perfect way, as they stomped Pungo Christian Academy 54-0 en route to a 4-3 record heading into the playoffs.
Just as he did the week before, Dunk took the first play from scrimmage for Bethel Christian to the house, as he took a dump off from quarterback Connor Williams over 60 yards to pay dirt. Dunk was not done on the day, as he would catch another Connor Williams dump off on his next offensive touch, and would also later score on a rushing touchdown of his own to give him three touchdowns on the day.
Along with Williams’ two passing touchdowns to Dunk, he was also a monster on the defensive side of the ball for the Trojans, compiling two pick-sixes in the first quarter, as well as a 99-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown to give him three defensive touchdowns, and five total in the first half.
With the score out of hand at half 48-0, the game shifted to a running clock for the rest of the game and gave BCA a chance to play its backups in on offense. The backups would produce a touchdown of their own to extend the score to a 54-0 final, bringing BCA to 4-3, and PCA to 3-4 on the year.
For BCA head coach Brick Crowder, he was proud of how his lone senior played on the night and expressed how happy he is to have had him as a part of his program.
“I’m so proud of Cody Dunk,” Crowder said. “I love him so much, his family. He has done everything the right way, in the classroom, on the court, on the ballfield, and I’m sure going to miss him around here.”
For Dunk, his last game went the way he wanted it to. With three quick first-half touchdowns, he was able to take a rest in the second half and is now able to focus on his team’s playoff matchup which has yet to be announced. He was proud of the way he played in his final home game at Bethel Christian Academy.
“I feel like I did great,” Dunk said. “I came out and executed the way coach wanted me to, I did my job, now we are on to next Friday.”
Next Friday Bethel Christian Academy will play in a playoff game just a season after going 1-8. Crowder and his team will go into final preparations this week in preparation for their opponent which will be either Northeast Academy or Halifax Academy.
“We are going to have to stop the run,” Crowder spoke on what his team needs to work on heading into the playoffs. “We’re going to have to be physical up front, and then we are going to have to dial in our passing game, I think that’s our advantage going into the playoffs.”
