Cannon Cougars start Hoover Era with road win over North Raleigh

Staff reports

RALEIGH -- The Cannon School defense held North Raleigh Christian Academy scoreless in the second half, and Cougars sophomore Connor Yang scored a fourth-quarter touchdown that led to a 21-14 victory.

Yang’s score broke a tie in the final period to help Cannon start 1-0.

First-year Cougars coach Brad Hoover, a former Carolina Panther, said the deciding factor was his team's ability to keep NRCA from scoring in the red zone at the end of the first half.

Cougar running back Dalton Phillips scored Cannon's first touchdown, and Ben Wyatt made 13 tackles. Bryce Estes made nine tackles and recovered a fumble.

Cannon plays host to cfa Academy on Friday in a battle of Cabarrus County’s private schools.
