Charlotte Christian coach says team should be No. 1 CISAA playoff seed, ‘no gray area’

The Charlotte Christian Knights pulled away from Providence Day in the second half, winning 27-7 to claim the CISAA regular-season football championship.
But ball security Friday was at a minimum as each team turned the ball over four times – the Chargers had three interceptions and a fumble, the Knights had two fumbles and two interceptions.
Running back Elijah Deveaux had three touchdown runs for Christian and finished with 137 yards on 17 carries. Justus Woods had the other Knights touchdown on a 15-yard run late in the fourth quarter, and carried the ball 17 times for 140 yards.
Christian’s defense held Providence Day to 78 first-half yards and 85 second-half yards, with 58 coming on a late Chargers touchdown drive.
The Chargers’ offense was slowed when running back Gabe Montgomery’s didn’t play his usual number of snaps because he didn’t feel well, he said. Montgomery had two first-half carries and 10 for the game.
“I was a little sick, which prohibited me from being out there a lot but I tried my best,” Montgomery said.

Charlotte Christian or Davidson Day will snag the No. 1 seed in next week’s opening round of the NCISAA playoffs, with the team not selected No. 1 as the No. 2 seed. Providence Day has locked down the No. 3 seed with Charlotte Latin claiming the No. 4 seed. ...The loss snapped Providence Day’s five-game winning streak.
