Webb guides Cyclones past Halifax 36-30, into No. 2 seed for playoffs

ROANOKE RAPIDS — Community Christian ended its eight-player football regular season with a 36-30 victory Friday night at Halifax Academy that ended up deciding the homefield advantage for the first round of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A playoffs.
The No. 2-seed Cyclones and No. 3 Vikings, both with 6-4 records, will tee it up Friday at 7 p.m. at CCS. In the top half of the four-team bracket, No. 1 Kinston Bethel Christian will host No. 4 Wayne Christian. The winners will meet at the higher seed for the state championship Nov. 11.
The Cyclones churned for 475 yards of offense with senior Grant Webb and junior Avery Winstead accounting for 421 yards. Webb ran for 196 yards and three touchdowns while completing 4-of-7 passes for 36 yards and another TD. Webb also caught a 40-yard TD pass from Winstead, who rushed 26 times for 149 yards. Emmanuel Lassiter added 54 rushing yards for CCS.
Austin Conway, who was on the receiving end of Webb’s TD toss, had two grabs for 24 yards as well as a two-point conversion catch. Webb ran in a two-pointer for CCS.
Webb also led the defense with 12 tackles while Zyyarye Williams notched 10 stops and Jordan Allen had nine.
