CCS ends year with 47-0 shutout of Lawrence

The Community Christian School eight-player football team went out on a winning note Friday night, conquering Lawrence Academy with a 47-0 victory.
CCS, which finished with a 2-6 record, was not one of the four schools to advance into the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A playoffs. However, the Cyclones do own a pair of victories over Lawrence, the other coming in a 36-6 victory to open the 2018 season.
The Cyclones amassed 267 yards rushing, while holding Lawrence, winless in seven games, to just 39 yards of total offense.
Gavin Wiley, one of seven CCS seniors, led the way on the ground with 10 carries for 157 yards. Senior quarterback Reece Bartlett had four carries for 60 yards and accounted for three total TDs.
Bartlett had TD runs of 5 and 40 yards and tossed a 41-yard strike to Wiley. Wiley’s 55-yard rumble made it 19-0 CCS.
Wiley, who scored a pair of rushing TDs and caught another, added a 39-yard run in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, senior Barry Radford had a 2-yard scoring plunge and senior Josh Hollandsworth plowed in from a yard out.
CCS careers concluded for Bartlett, Radford, Jordan Tyner, Wiley, Salvador Guzman and Hollandsworth.
