Eagles breeze by North Stokes, get back to .500
CONCORD – Things could not have been much easier for the cfa Academy football team on Friday night, as the Eagles easily dispatched of visiting North Stokes, 56-6, at Webb Field.
“I was happy a lot of kids got to play,” Eagles coach Craig Kean said. “It was nice seeing some of those kids get good playing time.”
cfa Acadent junior running back Nicholas Treco had a big night, as he recorded four touchdowns for the second straight week. “He was just running through people,” Kean said.
Senior quarterback Mason McLaughlin also played well for the Eagles, as he threw three touchdowns, including the first score of the game to D’Wayne Crawford. The other two went to Jalen Hinton and Kyle Howard.
The final cfa Academy touchdown was also scored by Hinton, who recovered a blocked punt and returned it for a touchdown.
Overall, the Eagles, who improved to 3-3 on Friday, dominated the game, and they led 49-0 at the half. The offense was incredibly efficient, too, as it scored its 49 first-half points on just 20 snaps.
North Stokes is a Class 1A public-school team that has endured many struggles recently, including last year, when it cut short its season with four games remaining because of a lack of available players. It was the third time in the previous four seasons that the Vikings had posted an 0-11 record. This season, they are 0-6.
The Eagles capitalized while reaching .500 on the season.
“We could have scored the ball every time,” said Kean, who added that he is happy with how his team has progressed after a sluggish start to the season.
The improvement this team has showed will truly be put to the test this coming weekend, as cfa Academy travels to Statesville Christian, a dominant that plays alongside the Eagles in the Piedmont Conference and has yet to lose in 2017.
