DAVIDSON DAY at CHRIST SCHOOL (1-0), 7 p.m.
Last week: Davidson Day beat Gastonia Ashbrook, 48-14; Christ School beat Winston-Salem Atkins, 48-6.
Last year: The two teams did not play.
Notes: Christ School junior Kokayi Cobb's speed isn't encumbered much by a helmet and pads. Cobb was the area's fastest sprinter in the 200-meter dash (22.34 seconds) and 400-meter dash (48.44) last track season while he was a student at Asheville School. Cobb rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns off only four carries last Friday, but the real story for the Greenies was the play of another newcomer – quarterback Drew Johnson (279 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions). Johnson attempted 17 passes and his only incompletion was a ball that he purposely spiked. Christ School and Davidson Day last met in the 2013 NCISAA Division II championship game (won by the Patriots, 54-38). Sam Hartman (222 yards and three touchdowns with one interception) and Cade Carney (156 yards, one touchdown) are two of the top playmakers for a Davidson Day program that has previously won state titles in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
