Davidson Day coach Chad Grier has accepted an invitation to coach at the U.S. Army freshman game All-American Jan. 7 in San Antonio.
Grier, 48, will serve as head coach of one of the two teams as well as offensive coordinator. Last January, Grier was an assistant coach for the U.S. Army All-American game for seniors, which is nationally televised by NBC. He was a receiver’s coach.
Invited players will go through a series of workouts, after which the two coaching staffs will “draft” their teams for the game.
Grier said game organizers told him after he coaches in the freshman game, he will be in a pool of potential people to become a head coach the senior All-America game in the near future.
“It’s awesome, man,” Grier said. “Just being around those kids last year was cool and they do such a great with it. It’s different than an all-star game. They treat it like a (college) bowl week.”
