Austin Kornegay rushed for 209 yards as Wayne Christian launched its inaugural 8-man varsity football campaign with a season-opening, 64-48 loss to Grace Christian of Sanford on Friday evening.
Kornegay also returned a kickoff 95 yards to house and logged 15 tackles on defense.
Quarterback DJ Waters threw touchdown passes to Will White (55 yards) and Kanin Preskitt (15), and ended the night with 100-plus yards rushing.
Preskitt and Waters posted 11 tackles apiece.
Wayne Christian (0-1 overall) returns home Sept. 2 to face Arendell-Parrott Academy.
