Charlotte Latin took a young football team to Virginia Saturday hoping for a spark.

Hawks coach Larry McNulty felt his team got one, getting a 28-21 win over Woodberry Forest (VA) Saturday. Woodberry (0-2) is coached by former Olympic High coach Scott Braswell.

Charlotte Latin got 270 yards total offense from Martin Sumicrast, including a passing touchdown and rushing touchdown. Demarkes Stradford had 164 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Latin (2-0) rallied from a 14-7 deficit in the fourth quarter to win and set up next week’s showdown between the Hawks, the reigning N.C. Independent Schools Division I state champions and Division III state champion Statesville Christian (3-0). The teams meet Friday at Charlotte Latin.
