Khamal Howard, a two-time all-Southwestern 4A running back who transferred from East Mecklenburg, carried for two first-half touchdowns. Quarterback Brayden Hawkins, a transfer from Dillon (S.C.), threw for a touchdown. And that scoring pass went to Muhsin Muhammad, a transfer from Providence Day.
Country Day opened the game by driving to the Myers Park 33 but missed a long field goal. The Mustangs responded with a long scoring drive that ended with a 1-yard Howard touchdown run.
The victory was entirely smooth for Myers Park. The Mustangs were held scoreless in the second half and were hurt by two lost fumbles. But their defense stopped the Buccaneers three times in Mustang territory.
