CARY, N.C. — The No. 11 Arendell Parrott Patriots overcame a halftime deficit to defeat the No. 14 Cary Christian Knights 25-22 on the road on Friday night.
The Patriots put a bow on their regular season, which they finished at 4-2 and assured of a playoff berth after a difficult 1-2 start for the perennially strong program.
The Patriots took an early 6-0 lead on a long touchdown pass from Cole Dawson to Morgan McPhaul.
They added on to make it 12-0 on a one-yard touchdown run by Cole Howard in the second quarter.
But the Knights rallied. Two quick touchdowns at the end of the first half put the Knights in the driver's seat heading into the break thanks to senior running back Erik Hernandez.
After a late first-half turnover cost the Patriots the lead, they cleaned things up in the second half.
A pair of touchdowns put the visitors ahead 25-15 after a reception by Nick Harrison and another short rushing score.
The Knights answered with a long touchdown reception by Ian Liechty to get back within a score.
With the game in the balance late, the Patriots got a key fourth-down stop to get the ball back, and then converted on a fourth down of their own to be able to run out the clock after the Knights ran out of timeouts.
Arendell Parrott will await its seeding in the postseason and be back in action next week as it looks to make a championship run.
